Tennessee Supreme Court Justice To Retire In 2023
Just a week after being re-elected as governor, Bill Lee now has a Supreme Court vacancy he will now be looking to fill. On Tuesday, Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon G. Lee said that she has notified Governor Bill Lee of her intent to retire from the bench on Aug. 31, 2023. By the time she retires, Lee will have served on Tennessee’s top court for 15 years. She is currently the longest-serving member of the Supreme Court and the only justice from East Tennessee. Sharon Lee spent 26 years practicing law in Madisonville in Monroe County. In 2004, she became the first woman to serve on the Eastern Section of the Tennessee Court of Appeals in its 79-year history. She spent 4 years on the appeals court before being appointed to the Supreme Court in 2008. Judge Lee is a graduate of the Webb School of Knoxville, the University of Tennessee College of Business and the University of Tennessee College of Law.
