Tennessee Titans To Get New Stadium
The Tennessee Titans are getting a new stadium. Last night in Nashville, during a 5 hour meeting, the Metro Council voted 26-12 in favor of the plan to build a new enclosed stadium on the east bank of the Cumberland River across from downtown. The new stadium will be built next to the Titans current home, Nissan Stadium. The $2.1 billion will be paid for by the Titans kicking in $840 million. But the deal includes at least $1.26 billion in public funding, making it the largest public subsidy for a stadium in U.S. history. There are also plans to build a “Stadium Village” around the new 60,000-seat, 1.7 million-square-foot stadium.
The idea of building a new, enclosed stadium for the team came about when it was found that renovations to the current stadium would cost $1 billion…making more sense to the city and the team to build a new enclosed stadium that could see Nashville and Tennessee host events loike the Super Bowl and The Final Four.
Groundbreaking for the new stadium is set to begin in 2024 and is expected to be open in 2027.
