Tennessee Vols Windy City Bound In Sweet 16
Don’t look now, but here come the Tennessee Volunteers. The Tennessee Vols stumbled through the end of their regular season schedule, but have now found their footing in the NCAA Tournament. The Vols handled Miami (OH) in the first round on Friday. Yesterday they faced #3 seed Virginia in the second round. Tennessee led at the half, but Virginia would claw their way back tying things up with 5 minutes to play. The Cavs would take the lead with 2 minutes to play. Tennessee would regain the lead with less than 30 seconds to go, and never trailed again. The #6 seed Vols take down Virginia 79-72. Ja’Kobi Gillespie led the way for the Vols with 21 points. Nate Ament added 16 more. All total, five Vols scored in double figures.
Tennessee now heads to Chicago for the Sweet 16. They will take on #2 seed Iowa State in the Midwest Regional semi-finals. This will be the late game Friday night with tip-off at 10:10pm.
