The Boring Company Could Do Tunnel Project In East TN
The company that is currently building a tunnel in Nashville that would link downtown to the Nashville International Airport is now looking to begin another similar project, and East Tennessee is being targeted as a possible site. The Boring Company, which is owned by Elon Musk, is holding a competition they call “The Tunnel Vision Challenge”. They are asking for proposals to be submitted for a one-mile tunnel that could be used for a pedestrians, freight, utilities, or a “loop” project like the one in The Music City.
500 proposals were submitted and the 16 finalists were announced on Tuesday (3/3). Among those finalists are proposals for Knoxville and Gatlinburg. The “Vol Loop” is proposed for Knoxville while the “Mountain Mile Loop” is the submission for Gatlinburg. The Boring Company says the winning proposal will have their project done for free. The winner of the “Tunnel Vision Challenge” will be announced on March 23.
