Theft Reported At Wal-Mart

Newport police called to the Wal-Mart on Thursday concerning a theft report…but not of Wal-Mart. Officer Eli Suggs spoke with Dillon Bales who stated his girlfriend’s coin purse containing approximately $1000.00 cash was stolen from their shopping cart. Bales stated he and his girlfriend, Jessica had placed the coin purse and their car keys in a small shopping cart but had to switch to a larger shopping cart to accommodate their dog. Bales stated as he was grabbing one of the larger shopping carts, the small shopping cart, which was momentarily left unattended, was taken by an older female. Police viewed security camera footage showing the female suspect taking the shopping cart into the store. Dillon Bales was able to retrieve his car keys from a Walmart employee but the coin purse was not located. No warrants have been issued at this time pending identification of the suspect.
