Three People Charged In Greeneville Teen’s Death
Three people have now been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Greeneville teenager in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 8. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation between the two victims and two other men. The Johnson City Police Department says video footage from buildings around the crime scene in downtown Johnson City led them to 34 year old Tyron Bland of Greene County. He is charged with aggravated assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
Investigators believe that Bland and 19 year old Jayden Smith of Asheville, NC exchanged gunfire during the altercation. Investigators believe that 18 year old Charles Dabney of Greeneville got caught in the crossfire of Tyron Bland and Jayden Smith. Dabney died later at the hospital from his injuries. A second person was shot in the leg but was treated and released.
Smith was arrested in Asheville on Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. 22 year old Katy Scruggs, also of Asheville was charged with accessory after the fact. Both Smith and Scruggs are awaiting extradition back to Washington County TN.
