TN Smokies Bullpen Blows Up…Championship Hopes Go down
For the longest time, the slogan for Chicago Cubs fans was “wait until next year”. For the Cubs’ double A affilliate, that’s what they are saying this morning…as the Tennessee Smokies watched their championship hopes disappear last night at Smokies stadium.
The Smokies had a 3-2 lead going into the fifth…but once again the Blue Wahoos pounced on the Smokies’ bullpen…a grand slam put Pensacola up for good. They would tack on another 4 runs in the seventh and send the Smokies into the offseason with an 11-4 loss in game 3 of that best of three series. Looking back, the Smokies should have asked for a change of venue. They should have asked to play game 3 on the road at Pensacola. The Smokies victories in the playoss all came on the road…all the losses came at home.
The Smokies were trying to win their first solo championship since 1978. They won a co-championship in 2004.
