TN TCAP Scores Show Improvement
This week the Tennessee Department of Education released the 2024-25 TCAP state and district level results. The results include both fall 2024 end-of-course (EOC) exams and spring 2025 exams in English language arts (ELA), mathematics, science, and social studies.
The report showed that there was improvement in all subjects for those in third through eighth grades. English language Arts is an important part of the TCAP for third graders, as Tennessee’s retention law states that those in third grade can be held back if they don’t score proficient in english. According to the report, third graders improve din this area of the TCAP…with nearly 42% of students scoring proficient. That is up nearly a full pe4rcentage point from the last TCAP score.
The TCAP report showed that nearly 41% of students across all grade levels scored at least proficient in reading, and just over 39% of all students scored proficient in math.
Some of the highlights in the results for individual subjects include:
English Language Arts (ELA): Most tested grades showed gains in proficiency, including a nearly four percentage point increase in both English I and English II.
Math: Proficiency increased in every grade level, including a gain of more than five percentage points for 6th grade students.
Science: Statewide science achievement continues to progress, with student proficiency increasing by nearly two percentage points since 2024.
Social Studies: Results in middle school show a nearly four percentage point increase in social studies.
Overall TCAP scores were up on a year to year basis. Individual student data will be available in the TCAP Family Portal, later this month.
