Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest
Police on Monday attempted a traffic stop on Nutmeg street in Newport on a car with a loud muffler. That vehicle did a U-turn in front of police and took off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit began that wound up on Industrial Road. That 2005 Bronze Ford Taurus passed several cars forcing many off the roadway to avoid being struck. The vehicle finally broke down around Bible’s Machine Shop…the driver was 43 year old James Ball who had two active warrants for his arret…one for probation violation. Ball was taken into custody and transported to the Cocke County jail charged with reckless driving and evading arrest. A syringe was found in the car so he was also charged with drug paraphernalia. A female passenger in the vehicle was not charged.
