Tweed Fire Now 60% Contained
An update on the wildfire burning north of Del Rio. The Tweed fire in the Cherokee National Forest has consumed 536 acres in Cocke and Greene Counties. The US Forest Service says that fire is now 60% contained, so firefighters continue to gain ground on that fire. The US Forest Service says that human activity is suspected as the cause of that fire.
A small fire that was 6 acres in size is now 100% contained in the Pittman Center area. The large fire in Polk County in southeast Tennessee is now 100% contained.
In North Carolina, the large fire in Cherokee County has consumed over 5300 acres. Crews are making progress on that fire as they have it 71% contained. A second fire in North Carolina in neighboring Madison County near Hot Springs has burned 36 acres and is 90% contained.
There is some rain in our forecast for the end of the week, which will assist fire crews in battling these wildfires.
