Two Arrested After High Speed Chase
Two people have been charged in Haywood County NC after an incident that began on Interstate 40. Haywood County police say a deputy pulled over a vehicle that was speeding through a construction zone near MM27. The passenger got out of the vehicle, but the driver would not. That driver then pulled off with the deputy hanging onto the car. The deputy suffered minor injuries when he was dragged about 10-15 yards. Deputies say that Kihrie Holmes exited the interstate onto the Great Smoky Mountains Expressway where he led police on a high speed chase with speeds of 100 mph. Holmes exited the expressway at exit 103, US 19 near Waynesville. Deputies used a successful pit maneuver to bring the chase to a halt near Lake Junaluska.
Holmes is charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official. The passenger, Jarrett Youngdeer had outstanding warrants in Cherokee County NC. He was also charged with felony possession of schedule II narcotics.
