Two Arrested After One Car Accident
A man was arrested in Newport over the weekend after crashing his vehicle in a one car accident. Newport police officers say they observed a Dodge Charger traveling westbound on West Broadway that was swerving in and out of its lane, nearly hitting another vehicle. When police attempted a traffic stop, the driver of the Dodge Charger increased his speed and and made a lefthand turn onto Old Knoxville Hwy before then colliding with a block wall and knocking down a utility pole.
Police identified the driver as 29 year old Justin Dockery, who smelled of alcohol. After failing field sobriety tests, officers attempted to explain the Implied Consent Law to Dockery. It was then he charged at officers in an aggressive manner. He was charged with Reckless Driving and DUI.
Also arrested was 28 year old Markell Jackson, who drove up to where police had Justin Dockery stopped. Jackson was also under the influence of alcohol. When police attempted to find him a ride home, Jackson became combative with officers. He finally had to be tazed into compliance and was charged with Resisting Arrest as well as Driving Under The Influence.
