Two Jefferson County Men Charged In I-40 Crash
Two young men from Jefferson County have been charged in relation to an multi-vehicle accident that closed a portion of Interstate 40 in Sevier County Wednesday night.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Jonathan Negrete-Toledo, of Dandridge was driving a Toyota Camry on I-40 east near mile marker 409 Wednesday evening around 8pm. Negrete-Toledo collided with a semi-truck, which caused that semi and another to veer into the median. One of the semis wound up on its side, trapping the driver inside. That 58 year old truck driver had to be extricated from the cab of his truck. He was then flown by LifeStar to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
After hitting the original semi, the Toyota Camry then struck a third tractor trailer and temporarily got caught underneath that semi. Negrete-Toledo was charged with underage driving while impaired and violation of implied consent. His 20 year old passenger, Victor Campos, of White Pine, was charged with underage alcohol consumption. Interstate 40 was either completely or partially closed in Sevier County for about six hours while that scene was cleared.
