UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN
The latest unemployment numbers are out. Last week for the first time since late March new jobless claims in the state dropped to less than 10,000 new cases. The state Department of Labor and Workforce reported 8,702 new jobless claims were made in the week ending April 24, that’s a decrease of more than 4500 from the previous week. The first two weeks in April saw at least 10,800 claims in both of those weeks. Total continued unemployment cases in the state are currently at 51,055…up over 4,000 from a week ago. Since the week ending on Jan. 9… A total of 177,410 new claims have been filed in Tennessee. Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, the Dept. of Labor & Workforce has reported 1,152,364 unemployment claims in Tennessee.
