Welfare check leads to arrest

Newport police were called early yesterday morning to perform a welfare check on a man lying on his back in the parking lot of Laws Used Cars on Cosby Hwy. Edward Moore was found by officers to be in an intoxicated state. For his safety, Moore was taken to the Cocke County Jail…where upon a search officers found a little under a half gram of methamphetamine in a baggie. Moore was then placed under arrest for possession of narcotics.
