Well Thought Of Judge Hit And Killed By Car
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office and the Sevier County Sheriff’s office are in mourning and offering condolences to the family of a well thought of judge. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 61 year old Okie Duane Slone was walking east on E Highway 25/70 towards Mountain Vista Trail in Jefferson County around 1:30am Sunday morning. Judge Slone then walked out into the roadway where he was struck by a car and killed.
Judge Slone was a former drug trafficking prosecutor that was elected to the Fourth Judicial District Circuit court in 1998. The fourth Judicial District contains Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson, and Sevier counties. Rep. Jeremy Faison put out a statement saying in part “Judge Slone had a massive heart for people that came to his court room. He literally put “drug courts” on the map for TN.”
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says no charges are pending at this time against the driver. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office says they are investigating the accident.
