Wildfires 100% Contained In Sevier County
Both Sevier County wildfires are now 100% contained. Sevier County officials making that announcement yesterday afternoon when firefighters got the Millstone Gap fire to 100% containment. The Hatcher Mountain wildfire achieved 100% containment earlier this week. That wildfire claimed almost 2500 acres and 219 structures…but fortunately neither of those wildfires claimed any lives. That is due mainly to lessons the county learned from the Gatlinburg fire back in November of 2016. That includes better notifications about evacuations. Sevier County mayor Larry Waters says in the coming weeks, he plans to sit down with first responders to see if there are any lessons learned from this wildfire that can help with such fires in the future.
Donations for the wildfire victims are still being accepted at the Sevier County Fairgrounds…hours are 9-5 today and 1-5 over the weekend. Monetary donations can be made at any Citizens National Bank branch. Checks need to be made out to Mountain Tough.
