WSCC Seeking Work From Local Artists For Exhibit
If you or someone you know is an aspiring artist, Walters State is looking for you. The Walters State Art Department is now inviting artists 18 and older who live or work in Walters State’s service area to submit their work for consideration for a Regional Community Art Exhibition, which will celebrate and recognize artists from this region, which includes Cocke County and all surrounding counties.
Original works of art in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fiber or mixed media will all be considered for this art exhibition. Works must be no larger than 24” x 36” x 24”. An artist may submit two entries for consideration. The exhibit will be housed in the Catron Art Gallery, which is located inside the R. Jack Fishman Library on the Morristown Campus.
Submissions will be accepted on Saturday, Nov. 9, between 9 a.m.-noon in the Catron Art Gallery. All work must be ready to hang. Any unusual hardware magnets or specific hanging devices must be provided by the artist with installation instruction. Framed work must be wired on the back. Jurying will take place the same day, on Saturday, Nov. 9 and will be done by Heather Wetzell. She is a practicing artist currently serving as the galleries and collections manager for the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg.
Artists with unaccepted work must pick up work by 4 p.m. the same day, November 9.
Works chosen for the exhibit will remain on display in the Catron Art Gallery until the closing reception on March 27. For more information contact Jessie Van der Laan, associate professor of art and assistant dean of humanities, at jessie.vanderlaan@ws.edu or 423-318-2748.
