WSCCU Dual Enrollment Program Boasts High Success Rate
Walters State is saying their Dual Enrollment Program is proving to be a good investment of time for area high school students. The Dual Enrollment Program allows high school students to earn credit for both high school and college with one class. Brian O’Dell, who is the director of K-12 Partnerships and Teaching Centers says Walters State’s Dual Enrollment Program so far is boating a 92% success rate. In the last semester data available, the fall of 2025, 2,257 students were enrolled in the program and 11,875 college credit hours were awarded to those high school students.
O’Dell says faculty members at Walters State are dedicated to teaching and to working one-on-one with students in the program and those high school students have the same resources available as regular Walters State students. Plus, Tennessee’s Dual Enrollment Grant makes it fiscally possible for students as the grant has the potential to pay tuition for up to five classes.
Students with at least 12 credit hours of dual enrollment with a 3.0 GPA in those classes are eligible for the Senators Scholar Dual Enrollment Award when they advance to college at Walters State. That guaranteed scholarship is worth up to $1,000 per semester.
Program enrollment is open now for the Fall 2026 semester. High School students interested in Walters State’s Dual Enrollment Program can talk with their school guidance counselor for more information.
