Stolen Car Found Upside Down In Creek Bed
Newport police responded to a car upside down in a creek…this happened on Friday night. Police found a black Lexis upside down in a creek bed off of Thinwood Drive. Both driver and passenger doors to the vehicle were open and both front airbags had deployed…the engine was not warm. Newport officers along with the Cocke county fire department searched the area but did not find anyone in the area. Police say it appeared the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed traveling west on West Highway 25/70 when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway at the intersection with Thinwood Drive and continued off-road through a field. The vehicle which was found to be stolen out of Knox County struck a guide wire and utility pole and then drove off an embarkment into the creek bed and rolled onto its top. The suspects were not located.
