Chimney Rock Fire About 50% Contained

Fire crews are continuing to fight a wildfire in Cocke County. The fire started last Friday, March 25th and is located entirely within the boundaries of the Cherokee National Forest near the Tennessee-North Carolina state line. The U.S. Forest Service is referring to this fire as the Chimney Rock fire…it is located northeast of Del Rio. The forest service says the fire is about 50% contained but windy conditions are hampering firefighting efforts. High winds forecast for tomorrow and tomorrow night are a concern…and the rough terrain has also been a problem for firefighters. Crews from as far away as Ashville, NC are fighting this fire that is not threatening any structures at this time. The U.S. Forest Service says they hope to have the fire 100% contained by Friday.
