77 Year Old Cosby Man Charged With Marijuana Possession

A man pulled over in Cocke County late Wednesday night for driving erratically is now charged with possession of marijuana. Police spotted 77 year old William Spence of Cosby, driving an older model Ford pickup on Dark Hollow Road that was failing to maintain his lane. Spence was pulled over and was told to shut off his truck and put his hands out the window. Mr. Spence refused to comply, instead opened his truck door and got out. More deputies arrived and even when they had Spence at gunpoint, he still was not complying with deputies commands. He did eventually comply but would not follow instructions for field sobriety tests. An open bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey was found in the truck and nearly 4 grams of marijuana was found on his person. Spence has been charged with possession schedule VI, violation of the open container law and evading arrest.
