Man Involved In Fatal Sevier Co. Shooting Now Arrested
A man who was injured in a shootout with police in Sevier County last week has now been charged in that shooting. On the evening of Friday, May 12, Sevier County deputies approached a home on Holly Drive in New Center when someone in the home opened fire on those deputies, who then returned fire. The K-9 Hank was shot in that gunfire exchange and had to undergo emergency surgery at a Sevier County veterinary hospital. David Green, who was in the home, was killed during that gunfire. Another person in the home at that time was sent to the hospital with unspecified injuries. That person has now been identified as Daryl Higdon. He was taken into custody by the Sevier County Sheriff’s office on Thursday. It turns out that Higdon was the man that deputies were looking for at that home.
According to the sheriff’s office, when someone opened the door to the home, Higdon could be seen inside armed with an AR-15 style rifle. He refused to comply with commands to drop the weapon and an exchange of gunfire erupted. It is not known for sure who opened fire first. Higdon had fled from a traffic stop earlier in the day and was also wanted on warrants in Washington County. The charges against him regarding the shooting were not released.
