Cocke County Unemployment Rate Fell In December
The weather has been the big story this week, and that has been bad news for many. However, there was some good news released late last week. The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development released the unemployment report for the state’s individual counties for December. 87 of the 95 counties in the state saw their unemployment rates decline during the month of December and all but four counties had unemployment rates below 5%. Cocke County was among the majority in both of those statistics.
Cocke County’s unemploymnet rate fell 4/10’s of a percent in december from 4.6 to 4.2%. It’s also a drop of nearly 1% from December of 2024 when the county’s unemployment rate was 5%.
Greene County was still among the top 10 in highest unemployment rates, but dropped from 4.8 to 4.6%. Hamblen County dropped down to 3.4% while Jefferson County dropped to 3.2%. Sevier County, once again, was among the lowest unemployment rates in the state at 2.7%, which is the lowest in East Tennessee.
Williamson County and Cheatham County near Nashville had the lowest rate at 2.6%. The highest was 5.7% in Maury County. The state of Tennessee’s overall unemployment rate in December was 3.6%. The US unemployment rate in December sat at 4.4%.
