Man Arrested For Assault

A 25 year old man was arrested on Monday for aggravated assault. A woman told Newport police she got out of her vehicle to open a gate when a man approached her telling her he wanted to go to the rock quarry…the woman told the man identified as Tommy Leonard that no one was allowed up to the quarry at that time of night…the man began arguing with her and eventually pulled out a knife yelling that he wanted her to take him to the quarry…the woman’s boyfriend who was also in the car got out of the vehicle and that sent Leonard running away. He was later caught by Newport police who stated he appeared to be on some sort of narcotic…he was taken into custody and had been charged with aggravated assault.
