Cocke County Sheriff’s Office Combatting Drugs In Jail
Drugs have been making their way into the Cocke County Jail and it has been a mystery as to how they were getting in. That mystery has been solved. The sheriff’s department discovered holes had been dug through the outside wall into two of the cells on the other side of the wall. Unknown subjects would then approach the wall and stuff drugs through the holes and into the cells. To combat this problem, if you go by the jail annex building you will see some construction happening. An 8 foot high metal fence is being erected that will stand out 6 feet from the building. That fence will be topped with razor wire. The sheriff’s department is also looking at installing a new body and cavity x-ray machine that will greet any visitors to the facility. The fence should be completed next week and today the department is meeting with a company to install the x-ray machine.
