Newport Police Pursue High Speed Vehicle
Early Saturday morning Newport Police were advised about a vehicle heading eastbound on Hwy 25/70 coming from Jefferson County travelling at a high rate of speed. Dandridge police had been in pursuit of the vehicle but had lost contact with it. Patrolman Paul Weber saw a black BMW going 80 in a 40 mph zone. Weber attempted a traffic stop, but the BMW sped up to 90 miles an hour but shortly afterword’s suffered mechanical issues and came to a stop. The driver was 51 year old Blaine Williams who told Weber he fled from Jefferson County law enforcement because he was scared and he stopped because he had blown up his engine by going speeds of 130 mph in Jefferson County. Williams was arrested for speeding, no insurance and evading arrest.
