Lee Begins Second Term
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee was sworn in for his second term Saturday at the Legislative Plaza in Nashville. Lee listed many challenges and achievements in his first term…the Covid-19 pandemic and several natural diasters topped the governor’s list of challenges. The governor also listed his wife’s current battle with lymphoma as a current challenge for him personally.
Among the accomplishments Lee touted in his first term was his push to revamp Tennessee’s complicated education funding system with a more simpler formula and keeping the state’s financial house in order. Lee stated one of his biggest priorities in his second term is to improve the state’s aging transportation system and also protecting the state’s most vulnerable youth after a recent audit found that the Department of Children’s Services had failed to protect numerous children placed in state custody. Lee won re-election for a second term handily back in November.
