Man Arrested After Walking In Middle Of Highway

Sunday evening motorists on Highway 73 in Cocke County had something in the road they had to drive around. Actually it wasn’t a something, it was a someone. Motorists called 911 around 7pm last night about a male subject walking in the middle of the road and cars having to swerve around him. A deputy found the man walking in the southbound lane of Highway 73 wearing no shirt, no shoes, and his pants unzipped exposing his genitals. The man stated he was just walking down the road to get out of his house. 40 year old Joe Stewart appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. He was taken to the Cocke County jail where jail staff found an unused Syringe in his left front pocket and a clear glass pipe with black residue in his back left pocket. The glass pipe is commonly used for illegal narcotics. Stewart was charged with public intoxication and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.
