Police Respond To Possible Overdose At Weigel’s

Employees at Weigel’s in Newport called police Wednesday night after they noticed a woman possibly overdosing in a car in the parking lot. An officer arrived and found the female subject sitting in a blue Chrysler sedan with the engine running and the car in park. A cut straw and plastic bag containing a powder substance were in her hands as she nodded off. A knock on the window did not bring the woman around, so the officer opened the door and tapped her on the shoulder. The woman identified herself as 34 year old Stevie Vaughn Friday. She told the officer that the powder was fentanyl and she had just taken it right before their arrival. Ms. Friday was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication.
