Newport Medical Center Unveils New CT
A new addition to the Newport Medical Center will help you not have to drive to Morristown or Knoxville if you need a CT Scan. Tennova Healthcare says Newport Medical Center now has a new 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, better known as a CAT scan. Tennova says this scanner can take 64 images within one rotation around a patient in order to provide more accurate and timely diagnostics while being noninvasive. The scanner is capable of creating full 3D images within just seconds.
A press release from the Newport Medical Center says this CT scanner can assist in the early detection of heart disease, help diagnose malignant or benign tumors, along with infections and fractures. It can also reduce distortions caused by metal implants and manage neurological evaluations such as internal bleeding, blood clots, strokes and aneurysms. Scott Williams, the CEO of Tennova Healthcare Newport, says this new CT scanner will eliminate the need for residents of Cocke County to have to drive a long distance for diagnostic testing.
