Cherokee National Forest Announces Operating Dates

Cherokee National Forest officials have announced the annual operating dates for recreation sites within the forest boundaries. In Cocke County, besides the Bubbling Springs Shooting Range and the French Broad Boat Launch, which are open all year long, the Round Mountain Recreation Area- will open on May 1. It will then close this fall on Oct 24.

Weaver’s Bend will reopen on March 15. It will then close on December 15 this year.

In Greene County, two popular campgrounds…the Horse Creek Campground and the Paint Creek Campground will open M\on May1 and will close on October 24. Most campsites are first come, first served. But reservations can be made for some spots. Visitors can go online to www.recreation.gov and select the name of the facility they wish to reserve or call the reservation service at 1-877-444-6777.
