Cocke Co. High School & Three Rivers In Virtual Learning For Two Days
The Cocke County High School and The Three Rivers Learning Center are doing Virtual Learning today and Wednesday instead of in-school learning…this is due to staffing shortages school wide at the Cocke County High School.
A new bill being proposed in the Tennessee State Senate would address those staffing shortages that many schools in Tennessee are currently dealing with. Senator Ken Yager of Kingston has filed senate bill 2702 that would allow retired members of the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System to come back and be re-employed as teachers from kindergarten through the 12th grade, substitute teachers, and bus drivers. Under the bill, those who return to work would not lose or see their TCRS benefits suspended. Under current state law, retired TCRS members can return to work but only for a maximum of 120 days. This bill would remove that restriction as long as the retiree is at least 60 days past their retirement date. We’ll keep you up to date on that bill’s status.
