TN Dept. Of Revenue Says New License Plate Production Has Not Stopped
The Tennessee Department of Revenue responded yesterday to reports that they have stopped production on the new Tennessee license plates…and they say those reports are 100% false. What is at issue with the plates is the revelation that the new Tennessee plates do not show up at night for License Plate Recognition Cameras…or LPR cameras. Those cameras assist law enforcement in investigating crimes by being able to read the plate number at night. They are also very important for the TBI with Amber Alerts. However, with the new plates, reports have surfaced that when photographed by LPR cameras at night, the plates show blurry or not at all. The Tennessee Department of Revenue and the Department of Homeland Security says they are evaluating claims regarding how new plates interact with license plate readers at night. Until this evaluation is complete, there will be no changes to the production or renewal process. So, if your tags are set to expire this month, you should get your new plate as usual until further notice.
