Cocke County Deputies Respond To Wreck In Cosby

Cocke County deputies responded to a wreck with possible injuries on South Hwy 32 near Ramsey Road in Cosby. A pickup truck had driven off an embankment and the vehicle’s driver had climbed out of the truck and was sitting on top of the embankment. The man who was identified as 39 year old Darrell McGee of St. Louis, Florida. McGee stated that he was driving east on Hwy 32 when his power steering started to go out and the vehicle veered to the right but he overcorrected to the left and the truck went off the roadway and down the embankment. However, alcohol could be smelled on McGee’s breath. He was taken down to Smoky Mountain Elementary for field sobriety tests which he refused to perform. After a tow truck pulled the pickup back onto the roadway, deputies found a bottle of vodka tucked under the driver’s side floor mat. A pipe with a brownish black substance had been smoked as well. McGee was charge with driving under the influence and violation of the open container law.
