Fight Between Two Men Sends One To UT Medical Center

A Cocke County man was arrested over the weekend after he assaulted another man. 44 year old Robert Tyson of Del Rio told deputies that 69 year old James Johnson had picked up a chair and thrown it at him. Tyson says he defended himself and took Johnson to the ground. Johnson stated that Tyson then punched him numerous times in the face. Johnson was cited for simple assault and was transported to the Newport Medical Center due to his injuries. Johnson was then transferred on Sunday to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville in critical but stable condition due to both sides of his jaw being broken and bleeding on his brain. Robert Tyson has been charged with aggravated assault.
