Flower Displays Being Vandalized
The city of Newport is trying to figure out who the woman is that did about $500 worth of damage to flowers on a bridge. Police were called Thursday evening to the North Street bridge at Clifton Heights after a report of a woman walking on that bridge tearing flowers out of the bridge displays. The female was described as an older woman with her hair in a bun. Police could not find anyone nearby matching that description. Officer Jordan Douglass says numerous flowers could be seen lying on the western sidewalk of the bridge from one end to the other that had been torn off of the main plants in the display. Newport Parks and Recreation director Tim Dockery told officer Douglass that there had been a similar incident on another bridge earlier in the day on Thursday.
A few weeks ago, a woman damaged flower displays on the Eastport Bridge on Hwy 25/70 East in Newport…she was tearing flowers out of the displays as well.
