Hamblin County Corrections Officer Arrested
A Hamblen County Corrections officer is out on bond after being arrested and booked into her own jail. According to the Hamblin County Sheriff’s office, 27 year old Chasity Merritt, who was just recently hired, was caught bringing drugs into the jail. Hamblin County Sheriff Chad Mullins says the sheriff’s office Narcotics Unit interviewed and searched Merritt and found 14.6 grams of methamphetamine, plus hydrocodone pills and other drug paraphernalia. A search of her car yielded more drugs and a .38 caliber pistol. Mullins says any department employee found breaking the law will be fired, charged and jailed. Merritt is charged with drug offenses and a weapons charge. She is out on bond.
