National Drug Take Back Day Is Saturday
If you have unwanted or old medications in your home and would like to dispose of those, this Saturday (10/25) is the National DEA Take Back Event. You can take old or unwanted medications out of your home and take them to several drop-off sites around the area. The Newport Police Department and Cocke County Sheriff’s office will hold a drug take back event at Food City East in Newport.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office will hold an event at the Justice Center in Dandridge. In Hamblen County, the sheriff’s office will be at College Square Mall. There are also several events taking place in Sevier County. All times are from 10am-2pm on Saturday October 25.
You can find a list of all drug take back events at the website https://www.dea.gov/takebackday
The Drugs Take Back event held in April of this year collected 310 tons of unwanted medications nationwide. The Drug Enforcement Agency says that during the lifetime of the program, they have collected over 9,900 tons of drugs, or nearly 20,000 pounds.
