Newport Police Make DUI Arrest
Police also arrested a man after he stopped his vehicle in the roadway over the weekend. 47 year old Jeffrey Stokely told Newport police that he left the Backway Inn bar and stopped in the middle of the roadway to urinate. He told officer Paul Weber he had consumed just one beer, but Weber spotted an open can of beer plus beer had been spilt on a floor mat as well. Stokely failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. A loaded 46 caliber handgun was found between the drivers’ seat and center console so Stokely was also charged with possession of a firearm while under the influence.
