Officer Involved Shooting
The TBI is investigating an officer involved shooting with the Cocke County Sheriff’s office. According to the TBI’s preliminary investigation, the incident happened around 5pm Tuesday when a Parrottsville Police officer and a Cocke County Sheriff’s deputy observed a woman driving on Highway 321 that was known to have outstanding warrants. That woman was 36-year-old Whitney Leanne Fox. She refused to pull over when the law enforcement officers attempted to stop her and a pursuit ensued. At one point during the pursuit, Fox drove into a field along Fox Hollow Road in the Bybee area. For reasons that are still not known, gunshots were fired and Fox was killed in the shooting. The Parrottsville officer was wounded during the gunfire and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Under standard procedure, the names of the officers involved in this shooting are not being released during the investigation. The TBI says they are working trying to piece together the events that led up to yesterday’s fatal shooting. Findings in the investigation will be shared with the District Attorney General’s office for their review.
