Scammers Spoofing CCSO Number And Inmate Names
Here we go again. Scammers are hard at work and their getting more sophisticated in their scams. The Cocke County Sheriff’s office says that scammers are spoofing the sheriff’s office number to show up on your caller ID. They also are using the names of actual inmates and the names of previous employees to make their calls seem legitimate.
In one scam, the caller is soliciting funds of $1,000 for ankle monitors to help you get your family member out of jail. Another scam is demanding $1,000 to keep your family member from getting beat up in jail.
Worse yet, is another scam demanding $15,000 to keep you from being arrested because you have a warrant for your arrest due to missing Jury Duty. The Cocke County Sheriff’s office reminds you that no one from a law enforcement agency will call you and ask for money. If you get a call like this, do not give them any personal information and DO NOT SEND MONEY.
