Second Harvest Food Bank Holding DYD Event

The fourth Tuesday of each month, Second Harvest Food Bank comes to Cocke County for a food distribution for those in need. Now it is Cocke County’s chance to give back. Tomorrow, December 4, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee will host its 15th annual Double Your Donation telethon. Donations given to the food bank will be matched by generous sponsors all the way up to $800,000.

Second Harvest has a goal of providing more than 2.4 million meals this winter for those in need in East Tennessee. Second Harvest CEP Elaine Streno says that with the grocery prices still being high and the temporary loss of SNAP benefits because of the government shutdown, has placed a burden on families. She says the double your donation event is a way to provide enough food so that those in need to dot have to decide between food and heat this winter season.

Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee serves 18 counties in the area and has been providing meals since 1982.
