Two Home Fires In Past Week, But No Injuries
Fire crews in Cocke County responded to a pair of structure fires over the past week. On Sunday, crews responded to a fire on Welch Road. All occupants were able to get out safely, but first responders were alerted that there were still two dogs and three cats still inside the home. At that time, it was not safe to enter the home. The cause of that fire is currently under investigation.
Just days before, the Cocke County Fire Department responded to a fire at a two story home on the Cosby Cut-Off Road. The home’s owner was contacted and told the sheriff’s office that the house was vacant and had been uninhabited for several years and there was no power connected to the home. The owner did say that over the past couple of weeks, several homeless individuals had been going in and out of the home, using it as a place to stay. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but the owner believes it may have been caused by one of those homeless individuals.
