Goodbye Smokies?
In a move that could affect baseball fans in Sevier and Cocke counties, the Knox County Commission voted to approve a 7 member board to comprise a sports authority board in the city of Knoxville. The idea of the sports authority was originally passed in December of last year, but Monday night’s approval gives it the rubber stamp. That move is a part of a process which has a goal of moving the Tennessee Smokies baseball team from their longtime home at Smokies Park off Exit 407 in Kodak to a new baseball stadium in downtown Knoxville. That move would make it difficult for Smokies fans in this area to attend games on a regular basis.
