Gov. Lee Announces Tax Assistance For Disaster Victims

Last week, the IRS is extended the tax filing deadlines for businesses and individuals, who had filed for extensions. The deadline for filing those tax returns has been extended till next May.

Last week, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced that the Tennessee Department of Revenue has extended the franchise and excise tax filing and payment due dates to May 1, 2025, for all taxpayers located in the disaster area, which includes Cocke County. Additionally, the department will extend the franchise tax Schedule G refund filing deadline for businesses located in the disaster area to May 1. The extensions are being applied automatically.

Also, to assist disaster victims, those in Tennessee whose primary residence was damaged or destroyed due to the flooding can also apply for a sales tax refund of up to $2,500 on major appliances, residential furniture, or residential building supplies.
