Cosby Native Ranks Machinist’s Mate First Class
A Cosby native has been given the rank of Machinist’s Mate First Class (Nuclear) in the US Navy. Isaac Williamson of Cosby received his rank in a hangar bay onboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) while in-port Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Washington last week. To become a Machinist Mate on a nuclear powered air craft carrier, mechanics go through an extensive training program consisting of three months at the Nuclear Field “A” School; six months of Naval Nuclear Power Training Command; and another six months at one of several Nuclear Power Training Units. The USS Ronald Reagan was commissioned in July of 2003 and is currently deployed in the Pacific.
