White Pine Teacher Charged

A teacher in White Pine is being charged after authorities say she assaulted a student. According to the Jefferson County sheriff’s office, the school was notified Thursday about an incident between the teacher, 60 year old Renee West Murphy, and a 4 year old student. The sheriff’s office and the Jefferson County school administration investigated, which led to Murphy’s arrest. She is charged with child abuse and assault. She was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Center in Dandridge but has since been released on bond.
