CCSO And SWAT Team Apprehend Convicted Felon In Bybee Home
The Cocke County SWAT team had to be called out to a home in Bybee Sunday night after a man fired a shot at his girlfriend inside that home. The victim, who was able to get out of the home, met with deputies at Centerview School. She told them that her boyfriend, 51 year old James Hickman, who had a history of using crystal meth, was showing signs of being under the influence of an illicit drug. She stated that Hickman became angry when she asked him to leave. The victim says she picked up her keys to leave, when Hickman grabbed a .40 caliber handgun and fired a shot, which lodged into a bedroom wall. The victim told deputies that Hickman was a convicted felon with multiple convictions in multiple counties.
Additional law enforcement and the SWAT team were called to the home on Miller Road in Bybee. Deputies attempted to contact Hickman inside the home, but he refused to respond. Tear gas was deployed into the home, forcing Hickman to come out and surrender. Officers located a .40 caliber handgun in the home and observed a bullet hole in the victim’s bedroom wall. Hickman is being charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and Reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
