Helene Retired As Hurricane Name
There will never be another Hurricane Helene. Not to say there won’t anymore hurricanes, but they will not be called Helene. The World Meteorological Organization says they have officially retired the name Helene along with the names Beryl and Milton. Hurricane Beryl was the earliest Category 5 storm ever recorded in the Atlantic when it devastated parts of the Caribbean last year. Milton caused an estimated $34.3 billion in damages and 15 fatalities. We know what Hurricane Helene did last September as Cocke County and other parts of East Tennessee along with Western North Carolina will feel the effects for years to come. Helene was the deadliest hurricane to hit the US since Katrina in 2005 with 248 fatalities reported…two of those in Cocke County. The WMO says that Beryl, Helene and Milton will be replaced with Brianna, Holly, and Miguel.
